COONEY-JONES RESIDENCE

This small courtyard on the south side of a Wallingford bungalow provides a summer haven for the residents--two people and two pets—and their guests. Evergreen Huckleberry, a Northwest native that does well in sun and shade, is in the built-in planters surrounding the outdoor dining area, providing unity and a sense of enclosure.  In addition to the huckleberry, Serviceberry and other fruiting plants feed foraging birds. Existing lawn was replaced by lush border plantings that included Dwarf Hinoki Cypress, Golden Barberry, and fragrant Daphne. Colorful pots containing New Zealand Flax flank the entryway to courtyard.
